Welcome to the first ever devAus ***Featured Artist***!!!

is a fairly new deviant having been on the site for just over a year. Her work is based in the Anime/Manga tradition that you find a lot here on deviantART but from the get go you can see that this girl has some talent! Hailing from Toowoomba Qld, I took the time to ask this 20 year old Anime artist some questions about her work...
Q: Hey Ardinal, thanks for letting me ask you a few questions! Ok first up, what brought you to deviantART?
A: A mate of mine =
Shuki got me into it. That simple.
Q: You have been on the site for just over a year now, have you noticed much change in the administration and the community since you got here?
A:Well, er... there was the whole Jark and Spyed thing... having one of the founders of Devart kicked out of his position really shook things up. I'm just happy to have a web based community I can join, where I am able to share my art, ideas, and perspectives with people from all over the world. I don't think the politics had too much of an impact in respect to what I want from Devart, but yeah it was a pretty big change, especially to those who have been with Devart from the beginning.
Q: Have you been into the Anime artists community scene much, I know there are heaps of clubs for Anime artists, do you talk to the other artists much?
A: Not too much actually, I have hit a few chatrooms, and tried setting up a an Aussie related anime club on here, where Aussies could get together and work on there own manga ideas etc. but I jut haven't had the time. I have a anime club I run in my own hometown plus life crap to keep up with. Dev is simply a place for me to express myself one way or another, mostly through my art.
Q: You've obviously been a fan of Anime for a looong time, what is your favourite type of Anime art and do you try to use the characteristics of some of your favourite Anime in your work?
A:Hmmm... I would have to admit that my art was heavily influenced by Sailor Moon, as it was the first anime style I tried to draw back when I was 13. Since then, I think my drawing style is influenced more by Revolutionary Girl Utena. Although I am trying to find my own unique style

Anime styles that I like and wouldn't mind being able to incorporate into my art, are Hellsing, Beserk or Cowboy Bebop. I dunno I guess I would like my style to look more mature and darker one day.
Q: Do you have a character that you use constantly, a main character with their own story and adventures that you create?
A: Why yes... I do. Funnily enough her name is Ardinal, which is where I got my Dev name from. She's an old character of mine that serves as building block for my style. I hope she continues to grow with my art.
Q: I thought that Anime was a mainly male dominated artform, are there any misconceptions about the people who draw Anime that you would like to lay to rest?
A: Can we say CLAMP. A group of women who have created a whole heap of famous anime, such as Card Captor Sakura, X, Chobits, Angelic Layer and the most recent Reservoir Chronicle Tsubasa. Naoko Takeuchi created Sailor Moon. Also here on Deviantart, the top anime artists are all women; Lasaro, Satomi-chan, Pu-sama, Misato-chan. S
Q: Do you think that the best Anime is still produced in Japan?
A: As far as I'm concerned, true anime can only come out of Japan. Artists from around the world can immitate the style, but I think they would end up lacking the cultural contexts and techniques that come from Anime. Anime was the word adopted by the Japanese from the French, becoming their word for animation. Anime has hence become the word we use to describe animation coming out of Japan. Even if other countries, like America, make something similar, I still think its not really Anime, but American Animation.
It can be argued, cos even I can be seen as an "anime"artist. But its simply because I have immatited the style, and if I ever published something it would have to be known as anime "styled" art, and not "Anime".
Q: Last question so I better make it an easy one. Do you see your art as a hobby, or a career path for the future, why?
A: I see my anime styled art as a hobby, but I also use it as practice for the animation work that I do for Multimedia, which is hopefully what I will end up doing as a career.
There you have it guys! The first devAus
